Can Chiropractic Care Help Headaches?
Yes! A 2001 Duke University study compared chiropractic care with the common headache medication amitriptyline.
The study showed that both were similarly effective in relieving tension headaches. Amitriptyline caused adverse side effects in 82% of the people who took it while chiropractic care had no adverse side effects.
The most profound results were seen after care was discontinued. Patients who took amitriptyline reverted back to the headache frequency and intensity they experienced before drug therapy. Patients who received chiropractic care experienced lasting improvement in both frequency and intensity of headaches.
This study demonstrates that while drug therapies may reduce symptoms, chiropractic care addresses the cause of conditions.
